Google, Citi, MasterCard, First Data and Sprint have teamed up to create an app that will make your phone your wallet so you can tap, pay and save money and time while you shop.
Known as Google Wallet, this next generation mobile commerce app is currently being tested for commercial release within months.
Launch plans call for Google Wallet to support a PayPass eligible Citi MasterCard and a virtual Google Prepaid card.
The app uses near field communication (NFC) allowing a consumer to make secure payments by simply tapping their mobile phone on any PayPass-enabled terminal at checkout.
The Android-powered Nexus S 4G on the Sprint network is expected to be the first smartphone to run the Google Wallet mobile app.
