Thanks to Musiwave and Mobiclip, Pictones was an early rendition of full video mobile ringtones but is no longer available as a product line. Pictones, first released by Musiwave (Openwave), combined songs with animated images extracted from video clips. By integrating advanced Mobiclip software, Musiwave was able to provide unique, high-quality full video ringtones.

Like existing ringtones, video tones are either integrated into the user's mobile handset, or easily downloaded.

"Users can now enjoy watching their favorite singers and personalities with each incoming call, enabling the further personalization of their mobile phone," said Andre Pagnac, CEO of Mobiclip.

Watchtones Mix Audio, Video

Video plus ringtone equals Watchtone. That's according Makayama, an Amsterdam-based mobile media and software company.

An early rendition of video ringtones, Watchtones play video with music on a user's mobile phone screen when a call is coming through.

Mostly compatible with Nokia Series 60 phones, including N-Gage, QD, and Nseries, Watchtones video ringers are no longer available.
