Code Amber, the largest broadcaster of Amber Alerts nationwide, joined with Smart-Traveler Messenger to deliver state-specific or nationwide notification of Amber Alerts to mobile devices. Anyone can sign up to receive Amber Alerts on those devices at Code Amber's website. The service is free.
Bryant Harper, president and founder of Code Amber, says his organization is responding to thousands of requests to send SMS messages via mobile devices to the public. "We know most successful Amber Alerts are resolved when a citizen sees a vehicle involved in the abduction. If you're out and about, you're likely to have your cell phone, pager or PDA with you."
Code Amber delivers Amber Alert information directly to media from law enforcement in all 50 states and Canada.
